About Julia

Julia Rose Rahm is a singer, performance artist, poet, writer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Portland, Oregon. Her music draws from a multitude of streams, including folk, experimental, classical, new age, world and devotional influences, as well as the old sean nós of her Celtic ancestors. Her theatrical concept album, Wound Tapestry, debuted in 2024 and her poetry book, Wild Heart: Poetic Musings of a Queer Mystic was published in 2021.

Julia also leads workshops and classes centering on the voice and embodied expression, weaving in themes of mysticism and elements of Sufi practice and philosophy. Having studied Sufism for ten years, she intertwines wisdom from this heart-centered tradition with her approach to teaching music, singing, soul-expression and artistic communion.

Her art dances in the liminal spaces, where the paradoxes of life attempt to meet and make love. Themes of subversion, heresy, the natural world, reclamation of the lost Deep Feminine, and primordial mystery inform her work. She has also written and performed several works of theatre and opera, including writing the script for the pastiche opera Gaia Gala with the feminist opera company, The Valkyrie Ensemble.

She received her B.A. in Theater, Music and French from Sarah Lawrence College in 2014 and her Master of Music in Voice Performance (classical and opera) from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2019. She also studied for a year at the École Normale de Musique de Paris.

Wound Tapestry

Wound Tapestry began as a bedroom vocal experiment, a channeling of lost voices and melodies long veiled and hidden. Grief howls, ecstatic cries, neurotic squeaks, angelic calls from on high.

This concept album is a journey: a descent into confusion and fear, a wresting with paradox, a questioning of what's true, and finally a remembrance and reclamation of the love and truth behind and beyond all appearances. A tapestry woven from the burning threads of longing for the Real.

“In the mystical realm of music, Julia Rose Rahm reigns supreme as a true enchantress of sound.”

Wild Heart:
Poetic Musings of a Queer Mystic

Wild Heart is a devotional journey through the alchemy of heartbreak, the bewilderment of life's paradoxes, the power of the Divine Feminine, and the wisdom to be found in the nuances of nature. With a distinctively queer, feminine and mystical lens, Julia Rahm's poetry invites readers into deeper intimacy with longing, embodiment and the sacred.
